Food for Good is the project of recovery of surplus food from organized events by Federcongressi&eventi in collaboration with Banco Alimentare and Equoevento.
The project is simple, does not require a great effort or costs, and complies with Italy’s Good Samaritan law (Law 155/2003)
Through Banco Alimentare and Equoevento, the Association contacts the heads of catering companies in touch with the non-profit organisation located in the region in which their event is taking place, so that they can collect the surplus food at the end of the lunch or dinner.
The recovered food is then delivered to charitable organizations (family homes, soup kitchens and refugee centers).
Put a stop to food waste at events!
We have all witnessed with some irritation and a sense of powerlessness the food wasted at the end of a convention lunch or dinner. While buffets should be rich and a delight to the eye as well as the stomach, we can never be sure of the number of people who will attend, so too often a large quantity of food ends up being thrown out. All the while, the queues of people in need outside soup kitchens are getting longer and longer.
Now we can waste less
From a meeting with non-profit organisations Banco Alimentare and Equoevento, we have discovered how to reduce food waste at events to a minimum, and give a hand to those most in need.
The project is simple, does not require a great effort or costs, and complies with Italy’s Good Samaritan law (Law 155/2003).
What is Food for Good?
Through Banco Alimentare and Equoevento, we put the heads of catering companies in touch with the non-profit organisation located in the region in which their event is taking place, so that they can collect the surplus food at the end of the lunch or dinner.
Food for Good, the project to combat food waste created 3 years ago by the partnership between Federcongressi&eventi, the association that groups companies operating in the Italian meetings industry, and non-profit organisations Banco Alimentare (Italy’s food bank network)and Equoevento has now been included among the best practices on the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste.
Download the guidelines and read about the simple procedures to follow to collect the food correctly and send it to a charity soup kitchen.
Tell Federcongressi&eventi when and where you wish to collect the surplus food. You will receive all the information, and will be put in touch with the closest non-profit organisation to where your event is being held.

Federcongressi&eventi is the national association of companies, institutions and professionals operating in activities relating to the conferences and events sector. The association aims to represent and increase the value in all its forms of conference activity and incentive events, and to promote the industry’s development as a key economic, social and cultural factor.
Banco Alimentare, Italy’s food bank network, pursues social aims by collecting the production surplus of the food supply chain, from the agricultural, industrial, large-scale retail and catering sectors and redistributing it to organisations that provide support and help to the poor, the marginalised and in general anyone in need.
Equoevento [Fair Event] is the first organisation in Italy seeking to solve the problem of food waste in the events sector. Created in 2014, the organisation has grown rapidly thanks to a network of young volunteers, and in less than a year has staged more than 100 “fair events”, with more than 30,000 meals collected, and over 20 beneficiary charities, including foster homes, soup kitchens and refugee centres.
